KTM RC 390 vs Yamaha YZF R3

Here are two brands that are ready to race with its powerful bike named KTM RC 390 and Yamaha YZF R3. Recently, the Yamaha showcased YZF R3 at the EICMA show that was held in Milan. If talking about KTM RC 390, it is a flagship bike that was launched last year in India. Let’s have a round on its features.

Design and look

The KTM RC and Yamaha YZF R3 are a fully faired street motorcycle. The front fascia of the both motorcycles is very impressive, that gives an aerodynamic look to the motorcycle. Thus, the fairing of KTM RC 390 is enough to grab the mind of the riders, while a twin headlamp along with daytime running lights gives a unique appeal to the motorcycle. The fairing of YZF R3 is integrated with a twin headlight light, which seems more appealing than KTM RC 390. Furthermore, the YZF R3 consists a fully digital instrument that carries a multifunctional meter such as fuel capacity, gear-position indicator, fuel economy and side stand. The KTM RC 390 also featured in a fully digital instrument panel, which has a gear position, fuel economy, service reminder and RPM reading. Thus, the seat of both these bikes is very different, such as the KTM RC 390 has a matte black rear seat, while the Yamaha YZF R3 gets split seats. And, the handling quality of both bikes is almost same.

Engine and Power

The power delivery system of KTM RC 390 and YZF R3 is very different. The KTM RC 390 is powered by a 373cc single cylinder and liquid cooled engine that employs 43 BHP of power at 9,000 RPM and 35Nm of torque at 7,000 RPM. Likewise, Yamaha YZF-R3 is powered by a 321cc, liquid cooled and two-cylinder engine which churns out a maximum power of 41.4 BHP at 10,750 RPM and torque of 29.6 Nm at 9,000 RPM. Thus, the KTM RC 390 is featured with an electronic fuel injection system that enhances the performance of the bike and provides better fuel economy, while the YZF R3 has only fuelled injection system. The YZF-R3 has 2-into-1 exhaust muffler that is inspired by its big brother named R6, while the exhaust of KTM RC 370 is located in the bottom of the fairing. Both the sport bikes have a six speed constant mesh manual transmission and wet multiple disc clutch.

Handling and riding:

The handling quality of the both bikes is pretty much impressive. The KTM RC 390 is built on a tubular steel trellis frame that is very impressive and light in weight. And, the Yamaha YZF R3 is built on a tubular steel diamond type chassis that is also light in weight and very strong. The KTM RC 390 has kerb weight of 159 KG, which is only 10KG lighter than Yamaha YZF R3. Moreover, both the motorcycles are featured with a standard seat that gives a sporty riding position to the riders. The KTM RC 390 and Yamaha YZF R3 employ the same suspensions such as both the bikes have an inverted telescopic fork at the front and monoshock suspension at rear. Both the bikes come fitted with an anti-lock braking system for the smooth and dynamic braking purpose. The handlebar of KTM RC 390 is very impressive and lighter than YZF R3. KTM RC 390 has low mounted handlebars, which makes the handling very smooth and comfortable, while the YZF R3 provides sharp handling.
